DSL Providers
DSL Providers are companies and agencies that offer DSL technology, bringing high bandwidth information to businesses and homes through copper telephone lines. To receive a DSL service, a local telephone service through the incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC) is necessary. There are several DSL providers offering high-speed Internet connections. Some of the major DSL providers include Pacific Bell, SNET, Verizon, Qwest, SBC, Ameritech, Southwestern Bell and Bell South.
DSL service providers offer various packages, tailor made for consumer needs.
The main differences in these packages include speed and the direction that the data is delivered. For example, ADSL can provide higher data rates towards the subscriber than it does in the other direction. This type of DSL connection is perfect for home users who mainly use the Internet to search and download information. The symmetrical high-speed DSL (SDSL) is considered an ideal package for enterprise subscribers who continuously send and receive data, or for those businesses that may need a two-way communication, like videoconferencing.
As the competition in the DSL market rises, DSL providers are offering various features to attract their customers.
When selecting a DSL provider, various factors need careful scrutiny. These factors include the price, dependability and service, DSL hardware, email accounts, web site features and networking. The features offered by a DSL provider vary according to the plan and the provider selected. But most of the schemes offered by are more or less the same. Hence, before deciding on any DSL provider, it is useful to check whether the provider is offering the best services and features, and that the package selected is the ideal one.

Mammoth Networks Expands Wholesale DSL to Arizona, New Mexico
(ContentDesk) October 17, 2005 -- Mammoth Networks has expanded its wholesale Digital Subscriber Line service to Arizona and New Mexico.
The expansion allows the company to offer DSL through its Partners to 156 additional communities.Mammoth aggregates DSL in more than 600 cities in nine Western states, wholesaling network access to Service Providers that sell data connectivity.
The company's network supports the creation of private Wide Area Networks (WANs) throughout its coverage area.Mammoth allows its customers (termed Partners by the company) to connect Qwest DSL loops to the company's private network.
Because Partners can use Mammoth's network, they can justify expanding their coverage areas and are able to service a Partner's end users more effectively.
Without a wholesale option, Service Providers must order their own circuits within Qwest's territory, then build out a network to support their end users.
The cost of building out a private...

FCC Ruling on DSL Re-Monopolizes Phone Networks Says California ISPs
SACRAMENTO, CA (ContentDesk) August 8, 2005 -- The California ISP Association (CISPA), the largest state association of Internet service providers, reacted today to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission's ruling today that high-speed DSL Internet lines should be classified as an "information service" instead of a telecommunications service. The ruling would allow large phone companies to close their DSL networks and exclude independent ISP's from the DSL market. The result is that most ISPs would be eliminated from the broadband market."The FCC's version of what it calls "deregulation" is simply just a re-monopolization of a network that has been publicly regulated and paid for by rate payers for more than 100 years. This is not leveling the DSL playing field.
The FCC is putting a fence around the playing field and giving the keys to a few phone companies with armies of paid lobbyists, letting the phone companies decide who can play in the broadband game.Consumers and businesses...
