Mammoth Networks Expands Wholesale DSL to Arizona, New Mexico

(ContentDesk) October 17, 2005 -- Mammoth Networks has expanded its wholesale Digital Subscriber Line service to Arizona and New Mexico.
The expansion allows the company to offer DSL through its Partners to 156 additional communities.Mammoth aggregates DSL in more than 600 cities in nine Western states, wholesaling network access to Service Providers that sell data connectivity.
The company's network supports the creation of private Wide Area Networks (WANs) throughout its coverage area.Mammoth allows its customers (termed Partners by the company) to connect Qwest DSL loops to the company's private network.
Because Partners can use Mammoth's network, they can justify expanding their coverage areas and are able to service a Partner's end users more effectively.
Without a wholesale option, Service Providers must order their own circuits within Qwest's territory, then build out a network to support their end users.

The cost of building out a private network hinders most Service Providers from offering DSL outside their primary coverage area."We built Mammoth around a Service Provider's needs," says Brian Worthen, who oversees product development at Mammoth.
"Our experience in the DSL arena has allowed us to share that knowledge, and ultimately our network, with others."Worthen describes doing business with Mammoth as partner-centric.
The company allows its Partners to order a DSL loop themselves, which gives them control over the loop.
The Partner can have the DSL loop billed to them or the end user, and not have to purchase the loop from Mammoth.
This lowers the cost of the DSL loop to the Partner, and gives them a choice of purchasing the loop on a month-to-month basis.

The process is contrary to services offered by Mammoth's competitors, who require their customers to order the loop on a 12 month term and pay a markup on the loop itself.Mammoth also allows its Partners to aggregate their end users back to a Partner's network.
This allows the Partner to exhibit control over the end user's internet access, network configuration, and overall quality of service."In a three part DSL puzzle, we are providing the middle piece.
The end pieces are managed by our Partners, we just bridge that gap," says Worthen.Mammoth's network also supports the creation of private WANs, where multiple DSL locations can communicate privately without traveling the internet.
The company built the network with that in mind, as private networks do not require firewall devices that add to an end user's ongoing administration cost.
Mammoth provides this ability through its Partners, refusing to market directly to corporate end users.

This is another example of the company's partner-centric attitude.Worthen points out that most DSL providers have one presence in a community - at the telephone office.
Because Mammoth is terminating Qwest's DSL product on its network, the company has access to Qwest's remote terminals, which provide DSL in far-flung subdivisions and business parks.
DSL penetration in each community is higher, meaning Mammoth's Partners have access to more end users in those communities.
Mammoth cites the 2,977 remote terminals Qwest rolled out in 2004, and the additional 2,526 remote terminals scheduled for a 2005 rollout.Mammoth plans to introduce additional products in the coming months.
Frame Relay and ATM circuits will be integrated into Mammoth's private WAN structure, in addition to private transport options.Mammoth Networks is an aggregator of data services serving nine Western states.

Mammoth enables its Partners by erasing the invisible lines of the telecommunications structure, and leveling the playing field for service providers.
The privately-held company is based in Gillette, Wyoming and operates a sales office in Seattle, Washington..

Cable Internet Subscribers Report the Highest Problem Experience

An overall 57% of cable Internet subscribers have experienced a problem with their service in the past 12 months.
This is higher than both DSL subscribers (51% problem experience overall) and dial-up (42%) subscribers."Once the service is set up and running, reliability and customer service is cited as a problem area more often among cable subscribers than DSL subscribers" says Christopher Clegg, President of Lumen Research Associates, LLC.
"This is a testament to hard work put forth by the ILECs over the past couple years to improve the overall DSL service experience."Lumen Research Associates, LLC is a survey research company in Rockville, MD.
The research cited is based on 580 online responses received over the first 6 months of 2003 (95% ? 4.1%).

DSL

Digital Subscriber Line, abbreviated DSL, is a technology that brings high bandwidth information for businesses and homes over copper telephone lines. A digital subscriber line can deliver information hundreds of times faster than ordinary dial-up modems, thus reducing the time needed to download data files, web pages, animations and graphics. Generally, the download speed of DSL ranges from 128 kbps (kilobytes per second) to 6000 kbps. The change in the download speed depends on the DSL technology and service level implemented.

DSL is a broad term that consists of various variations - SDSL (Single-line Digital Subscriber Line), 1.5 Mbps; Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), ranging up to 1.5 Mbps; Very high-data-rate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL), ranging up to 2.3 Mbps; High-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line (HDSL), 1.5 Mbps; and Rate Adaptive Digital Subscriber Line (RDSL), diverse speeds.

A digital subscriber line facilitates separate channels...

HyperFone Offers Revolutionary VOIP Technology Through Both DSL and Cable

Representing the most significant paradigm shift in the history of modern communication, HyperFone announces the availability of global VOIP communication through both dialup and broadband. HyperFone is the first company to offer free world-wide calling to other Hyperfone customers at the same low rates, regardless of geographical location.
Telecommunications experts believe that by the end of 2008, 75% of world voice traffic will operate through the Internet. However, the telecommunications industry is the most fragmented industry in the world.
Tariffs, borders and boundaries limit the availability of services and technologies.

HyperFone legally crosses these boundaries and bypasses tariffs by offering Internet Voice phone systems on both dialup and broadband.
This enables worldwide calling at a fraction of the cost, offering a huge value to the majority of countries where international and long distance calls are over $1.00 per minute. The countries...

Copyright 2006 Otis Cooper

When it comes to diagnosing the modem and any other computer problem, always start with the most obvious first.Modem problems may be repaired as fast as re-booting the computer or can be as complex as resolving hardware conflicts.

First remember to check for the most obvious signs of trouble, such as loose connections at the rear of the computer for external modems.

Internal modems may have their retaining screw at the expansion slot loose are missing.Phone line connections may simply be inserted in the wrong connector.

Nearly all internal modems are inserted into the PCI or Peripheral Component Interconnect slot in the system unit.

DSL Is Really Very Easy To Understand - Needs and Compatibility

Confused about DSL? So was I at one time! However, it is no big deal to get an understanding about what it is, how it works and how it compares to your other choices for getting high speed internet access.

Faster and faster dialup telephone modems were all the rage, until DSL and cable modems came about. We can laughingly look back at those old slow modems and the tell tale dialing sounds that you could hear as they attempted to log on.

You may also wonder why DSL needs a telephone connection. Simply put, the telephone company has special equipment in place to handle DSL traffic. Even though it operates on your existing telephone line, it does not interfere with your regular telephone service.
You will never know that DSL is operating in the background.

Once you upgrade, you will wonder why you ever bothered with the slow way.

You will equate it to walking backwards.

You will need a relatively newer computer...
